Jan Baan's autobiography 'Profit by Loss'
My life as an entrepreneur
I appreciate your interest in my autobiography “Profit by Loss”.
When I launched The Baan Company on May 1, 1978, I had no idea what would lie ahead. I realize now that it was not just vision but the circumstances and consequences of my choices as an entrepreneur that forged my path.
Back then, it was hard to fathom the speed and the far-reaching changes brought on by information technology. I was never happy about optimizing the present, as my existence was driven toward the possibilities of tomorrow.
The book you are about to download is not a novel, and some parts may be of more interest than others. It is meant to be browsed and serve as a reference for anyone interested, and to inspire young entrepreneurs.
I designed it around the three technology stages I experienced during my tenure as an IT entrepreneur, and I hope you will enjoy it.
- Systems of record (Baan)
- Systems of differentiation (Cordys)
- Systems of innovation (Vanenburg)
What you will get out of this book
- A history of my life as an IT entrepreneur
- Insight and background on our companies and products
- Ideas, suggestions, and lessons learned
